Justify

If you’ve been using WordPress for a very long time like I have, you’ve no doubt noticed that with the installation of WP 4.7 I think it is on the self-hosted side, the Justify button has been removed from your Admin/Editor. This grinds my gears.

Irritated, I had a lengthy text chat with a WP agent late today. This person stated in so many words that the button isn’t coming back anytime soon as it has something to do with WP self-hosted? The core code is basically the same for both the dot-com side as the self-hosted side.

Bunk.

This shouldn’t bother me so much I suppose but then at my age I don’t appreciate change so much. I view this as a step backward because to Justify my paragraphs to have them appear as blocks of well-aligned text, I now have to keep a small file on my desktop with the HTML code to insert!

I found the person I chatted with a bit cocky too, he/she seemed very smug about this, insisting that Justification is something of the past now which had me ask him/her if this is similar to certain CSS or HTML code being depricated over the last several years? That question wasn’t answered.

Good Lord, has the time come for me after well over ten years of being with WordPress.com to move away to another platform? They do exist, WordPress isn’t the only game in town to use a cliche’….

  1. John I posted for the first time this week and got REALLY annoyed when I realized that button was gone!! I hate sloppy looking paragraphs!! What do you mean you saved the HTML to be able to do it? I am not into coding at all and don’t know how to do it- can you share with me so I can justify too?? Thanks for your help!

    1. Isn’t this ridiculous? Why does WP continue to mess with us like this! I was told by a WP Engineer in a text volley that it’s part of the next release of the WP core coding. Who cares, why not ask the .com side users what they want? If I find a better platform than WP, I’ll Move. The code I keep on my desktop but have memorized is this:

This is your paragraph. Then close with the closing Paragraph tag

You must use the Text Editor, not the Visual Editor to do this, then switch back to the Visual Editor to see your nice looking paragraphs. Each paragraph must have the above code to Justify each block of text. WP has made this more time consuming!!

      1. Sorry, I was hoping this wouldn’t happen. The software interpreted my code literally. I will do it again but place spaces in between which you will have to not use to get the Justification:

Your paragraph. Then use the closing tag

        Let’s see if this works…

      2. ok I’ll give it a try- I appreciate you taking the time to help out. So crazy that they did this- like when they changed adding a link making it into a 2 step process!! ridiculous!

        1. Ridiculous seems to describe certain parts of the WP platform these days. Good Lord, remove that stupid ‘new and improved’ editor!

  2. WordPress…..
But it seems to me, that nowadays it’s not only WP that doesn’t care any longer how to make text layouts look good and suit what is written. As for grammar, spelling… et cetera
And on iPad you can only see three lines in the tiny textbox when you comment…
Anyhow, at the moment it’s too early in the morning to even think about these matters. 😉

      1. Me too… or…
I’ve also been blogging for ten years now, at first at blogger/blogspot, and since 2009 on WP.

…or maybe it is time to do something else now? My personal life has changed quite radical during the last year, so maybe I should go out in the real world a little more now. You know, meeting people and such…
Or at least only have one blog…
But if so, which one… ?

        1. I started on Blog Spot too! you and I have had a website for roughly the same time it looks like. I enjoy doing this very much, no plans to stop at this time. Meeting people is good, but me, not looking for a serious relationship at this time, it’s been less than a year since the big D, enjoying the single life very much!

          1. I wouldn’t mind meeting someone “special”, haven’t been in a real relationship for quite many years now. But I don’t intend to search for one. If it happens, it happens!
But I’ve also been very lonely during my eleven years in the other city, so now when I’m back in my hometown again it’s wonderful to reunite with old friends (and the family ofcourse), and I’ve also met new people who have become friends. And that’s what I want to do more now. Not partying! Just be in situations where I meet people I like and enjoy being with. Talking, laughing, whatever!

And about blogging – it is fun! I agree! And I really like making my images! But what will be, will be! I also want to start writing novels and short stories again. Not just hide behind a computor screen, watching the time pass by, feeling lonely.

            1. Good points. I too believe that if a relationship happens, it must just fall in my lap, not looking. Lonely, yes I am at times but remembering the past, being single is a beautiful thing.

              1. I need to be alone too, all by myself, to recharge the batteries. That doesn’t mean feeling lonely. On the contrary! It enhances the joy being with others. Both is necessary!

  3. John I hate to admit this but I don’t even know what the justify button is. I am on self hosted. Prior to the move a year ago I don’t recall ever using it. Perhaps I shall go with ignorance is bliss?

    1. All the button did is force a big block of text to render in a block-like text bundle. Since WordPress 4.7, apparently that buton has been removed. Gladly, I know a good bit about CSS and HTML!!
